“As we discussed in the July 13th FSNA Monthly Meeting, we are requesting the assistance of FSNA Members who are interested in working with Peggy King, Andrea Wieder, and me on the August 10 Candidates Forum.  Specifically, we invite you to review our list of items presented and shared with City Council at the May 2011 “town meeting” and offer additional items and feedback on the following list by Tuesday, July 19th:

1.  ensure that there are written requests from neighborhoods and neighborhood associations in the comprehensive plan,
2.  ensure actions are taken to support those businesses at, on and near the intersection of Fontaine Avenue and JPA,
3.  prioritize safe walking routes on all connector roads and routes to schools with sidewalk on both sides of the street with the minimum standard width of 5 feet, and include bike lanes and shade trees placement if and when possible,
4.  commit to begin construction of OLR improvements in 2011,
5.  downzone our properties in our neighborhood south of the RR tracks in our neighborhood to R1U,
6.  change the unrelated rule from 4 to 3 in our neighborhood,
7.  purchase adjacent land to protect and expand Azalea Park,
8.  purchase and also reprogram land within our neighborhood for additional pocket parks, bird sanctuaries and quiet spaces,
9.  improve the intersection of JPA/Cleveland/Sunset with a resident-involved design to make crossing safer and to slow traffic,
10.  fully fund and begin improvements to Azalea Park on schedule,
11.  ensure Azalea Park is secured every night with an automatic closing gate system,
12.  proactively act on our neighborhood’s behalf to protect us from county commuter traffic affecting our quality of life,
13.  make the Sunset-Fontaine Connector a priority and reality,
14.  study a UTS/CATS shuttle from UVA to Albemarle County Office Building Site,
15.  modify the Trolley route to come the 1/2 mile to the FSBC to serve our entire neighborhood,
16.  create a slower-speed, lower-volume, resident-involved design of the JPA extended-Harris Road corridor with sidewalks on both sides (the minimum standard width of 5 feet) and include bike lanes and shade trees placement if and when possible,
17.  create a slower-speed, lower-volume, resident-involved design of Stribling Avenue with sidewalks (the minimum standard width of 5 feet) and include bike lanes, proper visibility and shade trees placement if and when possible,
18.  reduce the density and do not allow any further increases in density in our neighborhood as it changes our character,
19.  improve Shamrock Road from Cherry to JPA with sidewalks on both sides (the minimum standard width of 5 feet) and bike lanes if possible with safe train track crossings,
20.  improve the Fontaine Avenue Entrance Corridor to enhance that area’s pedestrian/bicycle and shopping opportunities.

Power washing will begin next Tuesday, March 22, 2011 with the project lasting roughly one-and-a-half weeks to complete. Please be sure that all units’ windows are tightly closed and that ALL objects are removed from the surfaces to be cleaned. This includes lights, grills, plants, etc.

“REMINDER: The Election Polling Place for November 2 is the Charlottesville Municipal Arts Building, located in the corner of the Shopping Center where the Food Lion is, just beyond Jackson-Via and off Fifth Street.

This is the Election Polling Place for the entire Fry’s Spring Neighborhood as well as the Jefferson Park Precinct 302.

Charlottesville Area Transit Changes August 21Charlottesville Area Transit CAT is inviting the public to choose transit with a new name and look for Charlottesville’s public bus service, and new routes beginning August 21. The route changes improve efficiency and access to transit, or address new traffic patterns in service areas as follows:

• Route 2B – adds service to the new Region Ten location on Old Lynchburg Road; will return northbound to the downtown area via Monticello Avenue and Avon Street instead of Ridge/McIntire Road and Market Street making this route consistent with the inbound travel of other CAT service south of downtown
• Route 4 – will not serve Jefferson Park Avenue from Lee Street to Cleveland Avenue due to construction on the Jefferson Park Avenue Bridge; new routing on Cherry Avenue between Shamrock Road and Rock Creek Road

Willoughby Townes Owners and Tenants,

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all owners for welcoming me back as the Administrative Assistant for Willoughby Townes.  I have been asked to assist the Board in a limited capacity by regulating policies, collecting dues and issuing parking passes for the community.  For all up to date information, please visit www.willoughbytownes.org.

In preparation of coming back on board, I have driven through Willoughby Townes a few times in the last couple of weeks and am saddened that a few, select individuals are not obeying the policies in place regarding parking and trash service.  Please understand that in a community such as this, a few individuals can easily undermine the appearance of the entire neighborhood.  The Board has asked that I begin issuing fines to help maintain the grounds and has since decided that it is only appropriate to inform everybody prior to and grant a seven day grace period so that you may address the issues accordingly.

Beginning July 7th, I will begin issuing fines for trash bins that are not properly stored or left out on Sunday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday as trash collection occurs on Tuesday which will give adequate time for drop-off the evening before and pick-up the morning after.  All items that will not fit in the bin at time of pick-up should be taken immediately to another location and properly disposed of as Time Disposal will not remove items outside of the bin.  Please do not leave any materials on the curb.  Parking passes were issued for 2010 and each unit is assigned one pass to park in an “unmarked” space.  Please use your 2010 pass and refrain from parking without a pass.  If a parking pass has been misplaced, the replacement fee is $50.

As always, just a friendly reminder that all pet waste needs to be properly disposed of and that pets should be attended at all times.  We are very pleased to be able to accommodate pets at this time so please be courteous of your neighbors by picking up after your pet.
